A trente-cinq ans, Ovidiu, professeur de littérature au lycée de Bucarest, rêve de devenir un écrivain célèbre. Il tombe fou amoureux de Diana, mannequin. Pour lui plaire, il se fait passer pour un milliardaire et se ruine pour satisfaire ses caprices. Ces extravagances sont financées grâce à Pepe, un parrain assez bizarre. A soixante ans, Pepe, via sa fondation Philanthropique, est scénariste parolier pour mendiants en tous genres. Il monte une arnaque à grande échelle dont Ovidiu devient l’un des acteurs. « Il était une fois une ville où les habitants se divisaient en princes et mendiants… Philanthropique est un conte de fées moderne, une comédie sur la crise économique … ». Ovidiu, 35 years old, is a literature teacher in a high school of the capital-city Bucharest and a struggling writer. He falls in love with Diana, a top model. In order to impress her, he ruins himself and agrees to a scam in grand style, thought up by the roguish Pepe. Sixty years of age, Pepe, via his foundation Filantropica, is a script-writer for beggars of all kinds.
